On the 14th of October researchers and members of the public attended the Beat SCAD 2023 conference. The conference was designed to ‘inform and inspire those with the condition about all that life after Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) has to offer’.
This year’s conference focused on the latest research and information on condition where a tear appears suddenly in the coronary artery wall. This year also marks the charity’s eighth year in operation. It’s also the first time in five years that the conference was held face to face due to the covid-19 pandemic. Much of Beat SCAD’s work is done in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Leicester Biomedical Research Centre’s (BRC) Cardiovascular theme.
This year’s conference was held the University of Leicester’s College Court Conference Centre and included keynote speeches from leading experts on the condition including Dr David Adlam, a Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Science at NIHR Leicester BRC, who leads the Leicester Biomedical Research Units SCAD research programme. There were also Q&A and networking opportunities for people with SCAD to meet fellow patients and share their experiences. Guests were encouraged to share their stories via social media and an inspiration board
