Researchers, clinicians and collaborators gathered at the University of Leicester on 15th April for the Centre for Fibrosis Research Symposium, a full-day event focused on strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and shaping future research priorities.
Held at the Sir Bob Burgess Building, the symposium opened with a welcome from Professor Bibek Gooptu, who outlined the Centre’s themes, goals and ambitions as it looks ahead to renewal. The programme brought together national and international speakers to share work across lung, liver and cardiovascular fibrosis, highlighting both shared pathways and emerging challenges in the field.
The morning session explored interdisciplinary approaches, including genomics studies of multi-organ fibrosis and comparative transcriptomics, while the afternoon focused on patient cohorts and real-world data, featuring research on liver fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, and bicuspid aortic valve cohorts.
A roundtable discussion closed the day, giving attendees the opportunity to reflect on key priorities and contribute to the Centre’s future direction.
