Acknowledging and communicating your research

Communicating well is increasingly important as we seek to share the impact of our work with the public, industry, and policy makers.

The NIHR Leicester BRC has a dedicated communications team that provides members with support to help them share their work with a wide range of audiences, while our university-hospital partnerships support effective publication of research findings. 

Acknowledging the NIHR

When communicating your research through research publications, conference posters or presentations or via other means, it is important to include full and accurate attribution to the organisations that fund and support the underpinning research so they can be reported to funders and beyond.  

Future funding, investment, and the academic and clinical reputation of individuals and their institutions, is heavily dependent on such reports, making accurate affiliations and acknowledgements critical. As such, we request that you use the following statements and logos.

Statement (including funder and disclaimer)

Instances where the research received majority funding from the BRC:

“This study/research is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) BRC Leicester. The views expressed are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the NIHR or the Department of Health and Social Care.”

Please also acknowledge any other NIHR funding or expertise the research may have received.

Instances where the research was funded by another funder but delivered through the BRC:

“This study has been delivered through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) BRC Leicester. The views expressed are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the [name of the research funder], the NIHR or the Department of Health and Social Care.”

Please also acknowledge any other NIHR support the research may have received, for example, through a research programme award.

Multiple funders: Where there are multiple funder details and/or word count restrictions AND the research was funded by another funder but delivered through the NIHR:

“The research was carried out at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) BRC Leicester.”

Part funded: Please acknowledge this in the research paper. For example:

“[researcher name] is part-funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) BRC Leicester.”

Supported by the NIHR

If your clinical research is conducted in Leicester and is indirectly funded or supported by the NIHR Leicester BRC, NIHR Leicester Clinical Research Facility (CRF), NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) East Midlands, or other NIHR organisations, we encourage you to use the ‘Supported by NIHR’ logo on your communications materials.
