The latest HEAL-D Community Newsletter is now available, highlighting the people, partnerships and public involvement helping to shape culturally tailored diabetes research for African and Caribbean communities.

Supported by Professor Louise Goff and NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Leicester Lifestyle theme, HEAL-D (Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles for Diabetes) was developed with members of African and Caribbean communities to provide culturally relevant support for people living with type 2 diabetes.
The Spring 2026 newsletter shares highlights from recent community roadshows, bringing together HEAL-D participants, researchers, public contributors and community partners to celebrate progress and reflect on the impact of the programme.
The events featured wellbeing activities, healthy cooking demonstrations, discussions about future research priorities and opportunities for attendees to share their experiences of living with and managing type 2 diabetes.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with all respondents rating the events as excellent or good, while 96% said the events made them more likely to take part in future research.
Professor Louise Goff, Professor of Nutrition Science at the University of Leicester and Chief Investigator of HEAL-D, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to every participant who has contributed to this research. Without their time, trust and commitment, this work simply would not be possible. These events were an opportunity to celebrate the progress we’ve made together and to continue building research with our communities.”
The newsletter also showcases the vital role of public contributors and community organisations in ensuring research reflects the experiences, needs and priorities of the people it aims to serve.
