Our speakers
Professor Chris Brightling
Professor Chris Brightling is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, a National Institute for Health and Care Research Senior Investigator, Lead for the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre’s Respiratory and Infection Theme, Director of the Institute for Lung Health at the University of Leicester, and an Honorary Consultant Respiratory Physician at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
He is the Coordinator for the European Union Consortium AirPROM, MRC/ABPI COPD (COPDMAP) Consortium, the MRC Molecular Pathology Node EMBER and Respiratory lead for the IMI 3TR.
He was founding Director of the European Respiratory Society Clinical Research Collaborations, and is the current ERS Science Council Chair. He is the national lead for the post-COVID consortium PHOSP-COVID and local research lead for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Brightling’s main research focus is on improving the clinical management and understanding the immunopathogenesis of the airway diseases asthma, chronic cough and COPD.
He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians’ Cough Guidelines, the British Thoracic Society, American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society Severe Asthma guidelines and is on the scientific committee for the Global Initiative for Asthma – GINA.
Professor Tricia McKeever
Professor Tricia McKeever is a Professor of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics at the University of Nottingham. She has 25 years of experience of designing and analysing a wide range of different types of research studies, predominately in respiratory medicine.
Professor Charlotte Bolton
Professor Charlotte Bolton is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Nottingham and Co-lead of the NIHR Nottingham BRC Respiratory Theme. Her focus is COPD clinical translational research including early biomarkers, morbidity and pulmonary rehabilitation. She has an interest in global lung health challenges, long term respiratory sequelae of being born preterm and more recently recovery after acute respiratory illness including COVID-19.
Professor Sally Singh
Professor Sally Singh is Professor of Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation at the University of Leicester. She is Head of Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and the Director of the Centre for Exercise and Rehabilitation Science – a multidisciplinary group of researchers conducting a range of research projects in the field of exercise and rehabilitation. She is an NIHR Senior Investigator.
Dr Pranab Haldar
Dr Pranab Haldar is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine, a Principal Investigator of the Respiratory and Infection theme of the NIHR Leicester BRC, and Lead Physician for the Rapid Access TB service at University Hospitals of Leicester, one of the largest TB Centres in the UK.
His primary academic interest is the phenotypic characterisation of human M.tuberculosis infection to support development and evaluation of novel approaches and clinical tools for improving care of patients with this infection.
In his presentation he will give an overview of the clinical research in latent TB infection being undertaken at Leicester that could transform the way in which clinical studies in this population are performed.
