After more than three decades of dedicated service, colleagues from the TB Service at Glenfield Hospital have wished a fond farewell to Lynda Hewitt as she retires.
Lynda has been a central part of the TB Service for 31 years, playing a key role in coordinating care for patients and their families. Throughout her career, she has supported the development of the service and helped shape how TB care is delivered across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Working in a unique and highly specialised role, Lynda led on organising nursing activity and played an important part in wider TB control efforts. This included coordinating screening programmes in schools, colleges and community settings, helping to reach people early and improve public health outcomes. She also contributed to the early days of TB notification to Public Health and worked closely with consultants and health protection colleagues over the years.
Lynda began her NHS career in 1985 with the Mass Radiography service at Groby Road Hospital before moving into Respiratory Medicine, where she became Deputy Team Leader in 1992. She went on to join the TB Service in 1995, where she has remained ever since, supporting its growth and evolution into the service it is today.
In recognition of her contribution, Lynda was among the first recipients of the UHL Admin Team Star Awards in 2022.
As she retires, Lynda is looking forward to spending more time with her family, especially her granddaughter, as well as focusing on home projects and enjoying long walks with her dogs.
Colleagues across the service thank Lynda for her commitment, knowledge and lasting contribution, and wish her all the very best for a happy and well-deserved retirement.
