A group of PhD students whose research projects at the NIHR Leicester BRC are now underway gathered in July to share their experiences and plan future collaborations.
Their research spans all six themes of the BRC, covering cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and respiratory conditions, including Covid-19. These projects aim to enhance our understanding of various health conditions and potentially pave the way for future treatments.
Among the dedicated researchers are Mathuscha Ratnasingham, Humaira Shah, and Sara Naderpour who heard from the BRC’s Director of Training, Professor Sally Singh and Assistant Training Leads Dr Linzy Houchen-Wolloff and Dr Nicola Paine on 23 July.
These three students have recorded short videos to discuss their journeys so far and outline their future research plans.

The NIHR Leicester BRC’s Training Project Manager, Harby Valley, said: “This was a great opportunity to get all of our PhD students together and to hear about their research journey so far.
“It was also an opportunity to identify ways we can stay connected, support one another, and identify opportunities for improved learning as some of them head into their second year, and continue their valuable research.”

• Humaira Shah – Investigating Ethnic Differences in the Response to Intensive Weight Loss in Those Living with Obesity and Cardiometabolic Disease
• Sara Naderpour – Comparing Causal Inference and Survival Analysis Approaches to Estimate the Effect of Type 2 Diabetes on Incidence of Hip Fracture and Its Association with Multi-Morbidity and Mortality
