With the publication of the Ockenden Report last week, and 1st July’s Amos Rapid Review, calls have been growing for reform to NHS maternity care and services.
The NIHR BRC Leicester’s Director of Inclusion, Dr Natalie Darko has contributed to a University of Leicester Institute of Policy report, which details key recommendations.
Policy recommendations from Dr Natalie Darko set out how black maternal healthcare outcomes can be improved and disparities in care can be addressed.
Key Policy Recommendations are:
• Establish a national target to eliminate disparities in Black maternal health outcomes.
• Implement a comprehensive evaluation and impact assessment framework for maternal
health equity initiatives and interventions.
• Integrate the voices of Black mothers into healthcare policy and practice improvements.
