Our Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) team at the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is inviting members of the public to become Public Research Champions.
This opportunity is open to people of all ages, backgrounds, health experiences and sexualities. Champions help shape research by sharing real community perspectives, highlighting priorities, and sparking conversations about prevention and new treatments. They act as trusted voices between local people and researchers so that studies reflect what matters to our communities.
To support Champions in the role, we provide free training and invite them to four flexible meetings each year. Champions also receive a BRC branded top to wear at community events, and ongoing opportunities to represent their communities in decision making.
Ayodeji Ogunbuyide, Community Engagement Manager, said, “Public Research Champions share their real-life experiences to make sure our research reflects what really matters to local people. Their voices help us ask better questions, reach the right people and design studies that truly benefit our communities.”
