We are delighted to announce that work led by Professor Dean Fennell from the Cancer theme of the NIHR Leicester BRC has been shortlisted in the Research Category of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Excellence in Patient Care Awards.
The Mesothelioma Research Programme: Advancing precision and immune-based therapy led is one of three finalists.
The RCP judging panel recognised the work as a “world-leading initiative, with well-deserved international attention.”
They said: “We were impressed by the remarkable advancements your programme has made in precision and immune-based therapy, with clear potential for significant progress in mesothelioma treatment.
“Your submission highlighted multiple examples of excellence in early-phase experimental research, supported by a well-established and collaborative research team.
“The panel also appreciated the personal and societal relevance, particularly in regions affected by asbestos exposure, and saw this as a strong example of how research can shape industry practice and inform global health priorities.”
As finalists, Professor Fennell and his team are invited to the Excellence in Patient Care Awards ceremony in Liverpool on 10 July 2025.
