Check out these short animated videos, which aim to engage people with a new Leicester study aiming to to understand people’s experiences of seeking help for breathlessness.
The four short videos have developed by researchers from our Respiratory and Infection theme with members of a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) group.
Dr Gillian Doe, Research Programme Manager & Respiratory Physiotherapist explains: “Breathlessness is a common symptom that can be caused by long-term lung conditions like asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
“However, many people delay seeking help, which can lead to late diagnosis and worse health outcomes.
“Our new study aims to understand how people from different backgrounds and communities currently seek help for breathlessness.
“By exploring their experiences, challenges, and needs, we hope to find better ways to support them in getting help sooner. This could lead to faster diagnosis, better treatment, and improved quality of life for people living with chronic respiratory diseases.
“We plan to hold focus groups with people in Leicester from different ethnic backgrounds. Focus groups are a way to collect opinions and views from people about a topic.
“The information we collect will be used to help understand how people get help for breathlessness and what would make it easier or better.
“In the future, we would like to work with different communities to make new information (leaflets, videos) to improve how people get help for breathlessness.
The videos, which have been made in English, Guajarati, Bengali and Polish will be used to explain what the focus groups involve and to encourage people to be part of this study.
