Scientists from the NIHR Leicester BRC have begun working with researchers from around the UK after being invited to join the first ever NIHR Team Science Camp.
Professor Laura Gray, Dr Hannah Young, Dr Yogini Chudasama and Dr Lucy Beishon were all selected to be part of the NIHR’s first ever ‘Team Science Camp’ in September 2023.
At the camp, researchers from around the UK were placed into teams based on their mutual interests, diverse skill sets and backgrounds.
Dr Lucy Beishon explains: “After getting to know each other through a series of team building activities, we were then asked to develop a research project. This had to be something that we could each bring our experience and expertise to, as well as seeking to tackle a meaningful health challenge that we know exists for our patients.”
Lucy’s team chose to investigate whether an overlap exists between mental health, mobility and problematic medications in people with Multiple Long Term Conditions (MLTCs).
Lucy said: “This topic draws on each of our interests, and we hope takes forward the understanding of the experiences of people with MLTCs. Our next step is to carry out a systematic review and then talk to the public about the best way of taking this research forward.”
Dr Aarti Parmar, NIHR Leicester BRC Manager said: “We’re really proud that so many of our researchers were chosen to be part of the Team Science Award. They’re now part of some really interesting projects, which we hope will benefit patients here in Leicester.”
