Researchers, artists and the public will come together on Tuesday 24 March at 6pm for a special World TB Day event at the Attenborough Arts Centre.
The Culture Talk will feature Other Actors, a film by artist Ilona Sagar, created in collaboration with the University of Leicester Tuberculosis Research Group. The screening marks the first time the work will be shown in a single-channel format, following its original presentation as a three-channel installation.
Filming for the project took place in August 2024 across several locations, including Glenfield Hospital. The filming team worked with our Respiratory theme researchers, wider TB team and a patient participant, to capture elements of tuberculosis research and lived experience.
The 60-minute film will be introduced by members of the Tuberculosis Research Group, followed by a panel discussion with Ilona Sagar and University of Leicester speakers. The evening will conclude with an audience Q&A, creating space for conversation about tuberculosis, research, and the wider cultural and social dimensions of disease.
The event reflects the cross-disciplinary nature of tuberculosis research, bringing together science, art and lived experience. It is open to the public on a pay-what-you-can basis, from free entry upwards.
