It was great to see so many experts from the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and the University of Leicester gathering to talk about the future of women’s health research, at an event organised by the NIHR Leicester BRC.
More than 50 people attended the first meeting of the Women’s Health Research Network Forum, with a welcome from the Director of the NIHR Leicester BRC, Professor Melanie Davies.
Professor of Chemical Pathology and Diabetes in Pregnancy, Claire Meek and Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist. Dr Esther Moss, who were both instrumental in setting up the new group gave introductory talks, and the BRC’s Director of Inclusion, Dr Natalie Darko, spoke about research inclusion for women specifically.
Professor Claire Meek said: “The aim of the event was to bring together the incredible people we have working in women’s health research in Leicester. We wanted to highlight the impactful work we’re already doing, and work more collaboratively together in the future.
“I want to give huge thanks to everyone who came along and contributed throughout the day, including those who gave some fantastic lightning talks on current interest in women’s health, including Dalvir Kandola, Tim Van Hasselt, Eldipa Vounzoulaki and Mary Harrison.”
